One of the odd things that Colchester is well known for is their Oysters. Mersea Island, about 10 miles south of Colchester city centre, is England’s prime location of oyster production.

This afternoon, we had a day out to Mersea Island for a relaxing afternoon of seafood at The Company Shed and a bit of rural sightseeing around the island. I’ve tried Colchester oysters at Borough Market in London a few times before, but eating fresh food right at the source always taste that little bit better!

Other fresh delicacies for late lunch today: seared scallops and salad Proof that Michael has conquered a fresh oyster. He’s never eaten a raw oyster before!
